Last of theStoryboards!

And here are the rest of them.

Absolutely loved this project and it was the best education I could have had, seeing as I've had none. Artistically, that is. A degree in Anthropology doesn't really help in art (but is great for referencing concepts!).

Nobody knows who drew these by the way.

More storyboards!

Here are some more.

Paul, by the way, is working on an amazing reboot of the Hellraiser franchise right now. It is a fan project of love and devotion which we are all eager to help get off the ground.
I so hope it happens as all the stuff I've seen is amazing and I love Hellraiser!
Pay heed, Mister Clive Barker, Sir, whom I love and admire very much.

Anyway, back to the boards. I learned so much on these: working accurately on my phone, getting used to the software, how to manipulate layers and textures and so on. A lot of the boards I got to do were 'boring' shots, but it was in trying to get depth and feel into these that I actually learned the most.

PS: the director's style sheet was mostly Terminator Salvation and Abrams' Star Trek, hence dirty textures and lens flares.

Storyboards!

I just found out it's cool to post these!

A while back I was approached by my good friend and luminary, Paul Gerrard ( www.gerrardart.com ) who had previously worked on many big and exciting hollywood projects such as Battle: Los Angeles and Wrath of the Titans.

He was working on a project with director Mike LeHan and neded some help getting a whole load of storyboards together for a pitch package. He would do the key beats of the scene but needed the rest coloured and detailed to fit in so that as you looked through them they wouldn't stand out too much. Obviously I jumped at the chance to help out and get a taste of the hollywood. Paul sent me his first board and said just make them look similar.

After I cleaned my pants and told Paul that they would look in no way anything close to his fully-rendered cg/photoshop wonderment I started in them. I burned through as many as I could and Paul would message me whenever he had got one done.

It was a wonderful experience and one I hope to repeat soon.

Here then, are the boards in all their 'glory'. I did all of mine on my phone with my finger, much to Paul's surprise as he uses a 24gig pc. Yeah, you read that right. Paul's poop on mine from a great height, obviously.

Kane The Shadow

Here's a quick concept I did while watching an episode of The Simpsons, to break in my new phone.
Works pretty well.
(PS this is my character for the current playtest of Omnihedron Game's new fantasy game 'Epoch' which is so far proving to be an amazing game for storytelling and interactive, cinematic adventure. And it's designed to be played in an hour! Mighty! Can't wait to see more of this game and very honoured to be involved in it!)

TMNT Splinter

(So my friend pointed out that I hadn't posted this here yet..)
Spinter was the pet rat of Hamato Yoshi. Blessed with higher than usual intelligence and dexterity (it may be said that he was aready a mutant), he learned the way of the ninja from watching his master.
When Yoshi fled to New York, hiding in the hold of a freighter, Splinter came with him. When Yoshi was attacked by The Foot and Oroku Saki, Splinter leapt to the defence of his master, scratching Saki's face. Splinter received a slice to the head which took a notch out of his right ear and was left for dead.
Escaping the burning building minutes later by the sewer, he came upon four baby turtles crawling in a glowing green ooze. Later, he named them from an article in the New York Times on an art exhibit.
A little known fact is that Splinter was originally called 'Nezumi', but changed his name following the death of his master, vowing to be "a Splinter in The Hand" until the clan was restored to its true ways.
Splinter is a master of ninjutsu and is versed in is most mysticof secrets. As a follower of Mikkyo he can see the pattern of destiny laid out before him and make decisions to conciously affect that pattern. This is the true power at the heart of the way of the ninja.
Design-wise he was a tricky one. I feel he should always be in perpetual shadow, just a voice in the darkness. A click of his sword now and again, a glint of an eye. Having said that, a black page wouldn't really give any design cues. He is dressed traditionally in gi and hooded cloak. He looks unarmed but carries a shirasaya sword cane and is loaded with dozens of concealed shuriken, smoke bombs, etc.
Splinter knows that it is for his sons to take down The Shredder and restore balance to The Foot, but he moves out of the shadows to face his enemy, knowing that his death will motivate his sons to move to a higher level of understanding.
A ninja stands on the boundary between this world and the next. The power of life and death lie equal in his hands.

Argos City; Heroes of Hellas RPG

This is another piece for the Heroes of Hellas RPG, showing two heroes; a renegade Spartan and an Athenian thief, coming upon the great harbour city of Argos.
Atop the gate in the great harbour wall stands a statue commemorating the giant Argus Panoptides from whom the city gets its name. The great cyclops looks out over every ship who enters, wreathed in a halo of golden eyes, forever protecting the city and the temple above him on who's facade is carved a likeness of the nymph Io, bracketed by a pair of armed seahorses.
I managed to lose the bottom third of this image half way through, when painting the sea on the first time. I just dropped it over the whole of the image and saved it by mistake. As a result I had to repaint the whole bottom of this, maching up eversy line in the rocks. Quite the pisser, let me tell you!
And yes. I drew it all with my finger on my phone, same as everything else.
