These are from the bestiary and illustrate various entries/entities in battle with some characters which I made up for it.

A fantastic job to work on- I honestly enjoyed every second of it!

Well, it's been a while coming but here's the first of a few big art dumps of completed work.

This lot is from the now titles 'Heroes of Hellas' (oh, you read the title there did you?) which is a Barbarians of Lemuria (BoL) system game. Designed and conceived by the glorious Chris Harper, this game is stil in development but he has kindly allowed me to post my contributions to it on here.

These first ones are example characters from different nations and professions.

I'll keep you posted on any release dates, etc.

This was the last one- and boy was it a doozy! I must have drawn this thing a million times. managed to get what was in my head onto paper in the end though. Much photoshopery required.

Hi all,

just a teaser of one of the projects I'm working on at the minute. These grad-fills are just for fun by the way- just to show it a little different. This game 'Barbarians of Hellas' is going to be awesome: if you like RPGs and you love Harryhausen movies and Greek myths or epic movies like Troy, this'll be right up your alley.

Here's a load of headshots I did for some new/forthcoming Duty & Honour and Beat to Quaters stuff. Thought I'd share them with you.

There are rumours of some big shiny new stuff on the horizon... once Neil and I can get some spare time to sort it out!

LEGENDS OF STEEL

I was asked by my now good friend Jeff to do some updated character illustrations for the new edition of his Legends of Steel RPG. In our opening conversation he hit me with the music to my ears:

"I know you usually do historic stuff but this is more high fantasy"

I grew up on high fantasy (and sci-fi) and love drawing it almost as much as fine women and dinosaurs, so I snapped at his offer.

Jeff kindly sent me a PDF of the orginal version so I poured through it and was filled with millions of ideas! The setting is so rich and detailed that I could have done a hundred illustrations for it. I highly suggest that if you like your RPGs and are after a good Conan-esque game, then you get yourself a copy now.

But it was the signature characters he wanted updating first. Luckily there's a character sheet for each one in the book which, as a life-long gamer, makes for the best design brief you could ever get! I know how to read from them and took all the details from their gear and backgrounds to flesh them out. And I really went to town on them! I designed specific weapons and costumes and worked out the cultures of each character. I also put in a few nods to some classic fantasy heroes if you can spot them...

Anyway, here they are in their full glory.

Here's another picture, done for the forthcoming Beat to Quaters RPG. This one's inspired by the character of Queequeg from one of my all-time favourite novels, Moby Dick- he's a character who has always fascinated me so I thought I'd channel a little of him into one of the pieaces for some inspiration.

I think I may be getting better at this. Applied a testure overlay on this one. And I like the colour palette.

Here's the cover for Beat to Quaters. I've painted the whole thing in Photoshop this time which is a new venture for me- I usually use Painter. Now, I love Painter so don't get me wrong on that, I just thought it was criminal to not use Photoshop to it's full capacity. And Adam Hughes uses Photoshop, so it must be good.

The different parts (jacket, sashes, etc.) were all done on seperate layers set to multiply over the original linework and then lights and shadows were done exclusively with Dodge and Burn. In Painter I would have used transparent colour shade overlays for this, which is where thhis has differed. I then put a second copy of the linework over it set to 30% opacity just to pull the lines forward a bit.

It's done, I don't know if I like it or not, but it is my first attempt. I think I've just been looking at it for to long, so I can't tell if it's any good or not...

Adrian and The Lovemonkey

I recently received the shocking news that my good friend and sometime collaborator, Adrian Kermode, passed away. He worked on the famous Petra Etc. and his self-published Doctor Sorrow. He was a man filled with great ideas and a fabulous sense of humour.

We only got to publish one of our mutual works together- a short story of Doctor Lovemonkey (based on an old nickname of mine- don't ask) which saw publication in an issue of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

By way of tribute, here are the six pages.

I hope that Adrian is looking down on us somewhere with a glass of whiskey in hand. He was a genuinely wonderful person and he will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to those he has left behind.
